Designs I am working on

I am experimenting with content management, newsletter and search engine facilities in a website and am in the process of designing a concept design for a bowling club.

I have designed a website for a client hiring campervans. Regrettably, the business did not proceed as intended and I have the site available for viewing as an example.

My Designs

People always have an influence in your life! My son Brett initially introduced me to web design and started a journey that continues today.

Leadlights Manufacture

The client wanted the banners to reflect leadlight designs and the result is a kaleidoscope of colours and texture. The site includes the use of css and javascript that allows the viewer time to look at the body of work by this client which is very extensive. This is what the client said, "I was very pleased when I saw the results of this website. For once, someone listened to what I wanted, an uncluttered image which can be controlled by my clients. They can spend as long as they like looking closely, glance quickly, before going on to another page. It gives all the information my clients need in an informal, but succinct manner."

Cafe

I designed a website using the example of a local cafe in Singleton. This site is conceptual and was designed using css and javascript and reflects my views on what I would like to see when I look at a website for a cafe or restaurant. That includes looking at a picture of a meal or dish and knowing what has been used to make it. It also includes knowing what is available on the menu and what is the likely cost of going to that cafe or restaurant. I like good food and wine and place importance on quiet efficient service and a pleasant ambience.

Local Politician

I wanted to give something back to the local electoral district I live in (Warnbro). I approached the local member (Paul Papalia) and asked if I could design a site for him and his district. The site was launched recently and I will be maintaining the site for as long as the local member requires. The site includes the use of javascript, flash and for the first time (php). The site was technically difficult but very satisfying when I achieved the intended result. Marilyn Ranford from Peel Tafe provided the guidance in the design and the use of flash and John Prothero (http://www.johnprothero.com/) assistance with scripting using php. Paul Papalia will be very good for the Warnbro electoral district and I am pleased to have been able to design a website that will assist Paul to continue to meet the needs of his electorate.

Eye Care

I needed to have another design as part of my portfolio. The result is the Visual Eyes Optical Centre, a very successful business operating from two locations in Westminster and Dianella in Western Australia. The building of this site is also technically difficult and includes the use of javascript, php, flash and for the first time (in my experience) an accordion vertical navigation bar. The site also uses an appointment booking form that is sent using php, protecting the information and the email address from spammers.

Family Tree

For many years I have sought to write a story about my family and where they came from. I initially thought about writing a book but decided against it owing to cost and the difficulty in getting it printed. I thought about a website but moved away from that option as well. Recently, the idea for a website became a reality and I started this enormous task of collecting and recording information about my extensive family. The site is a work in progress and is not expected to be fully operational for 1-2 years. In the interim, the site continues to be updated as I continue to contact, visit and persuade members of my family to share their story with me and to give me access to their photographs. I have called the site "A Village in India" which is the place I lived in as a boy until 1963. The village is called Pallavaram, near Madras (now called Chennai) in South India.

Bed and Breakfast

I really enjoyed building this site. The images are fantastic and provide more information than the tourist visitors centre in the Mandurah area. The site uses a lot of javascript lightbox images and for the first time, a google map is introduced in the contact page.

Wealth in Excess

Ever wondered how to become wealthy? Then this is the site for you with the secret being involved in the personal development industry. Take a walk through the site and then give Jane a call to start you on the road to personal wealth.

Tree Care

Ever wondered where to go to get information about the care and growth of trees in WA? This is the place. It is packed full of information and the business owner is a walking encyclopedia of information. If you want to know what to do about those troublesome trees, phone Wayne Goring and you will be recommending his website to others just for the guidance it provides.

Music Group

This is a real "pop" group with all its members over the age of 50 and some approaching 60 but what a group. They are the only group to pay 50s and 60s music in Perth and they will do it on demand at their gigs. Log on and register as a supporter.

Wedding Videographer

My first foray into flash design and I just love it as does the client. Listen to the music "Nice Day for a White Wedding" while you enjoy the introductory images. Then go to the portfolio page and see what is possible using flash. The client would also like your business as well.

Apartment Style Accommodation

This is a bit different from the bed and breakfast design as it seeks to illustrate the benefits of apartment style accommodation especially for a family or two couples. Guests are provided with information on what to see and do through images provided by the business owner. In essence guests can have a virtual tour, something that visitor's centres are not doing and should be.

Blog Website

This is something I have always wanted to do and the opportunity came up recently. I used a wordpress template which is supported by a MySQL database in the back end. The site administrator (client) is able to choose from a number of themes and can vary the blog website as required.
